The Sterling Wife's Exit7.6

Clara comes from a newly wealthy New York property family and marries Richard of Boston’s old-money elite. The arrangement leaves her facing his coldness and his relatives’ contempt for her background. His employee Victoria encourages the discord, and Clara’s son Leo turns against her too.

A manipulated family photograph brings the conflict to a breaking point. Clara gives up the household’s privileges and leaves the mansion. Richard and Leo subsequently ask her to return, but their appeals meet a woman no longer prepared to accept the life she abandoned.
