The story
Audrey has spent twenty years beside Victor, including eight as his hidden lover, while he continues longing for Helena. She realizes she has become the person he keeps in reserve. Being abandoned after a car accident finally ends her willingness to accept that place in his life.
Audrey burns the objects that connect them and prepares to leave for Spain. Only once she is gone does Victor recognize what he has lost. His effort to bring her back comes after she has begun putting distance between herself and a relationship that never made her its priority.
