Hypnotherapist Melody Nightingale accepts a well-paid job with the Corvin family to cover her sister’s medical expenses. Her client has suffered insomnia for nineteen years and responds to help with suspicion and control. The household carries problems beyond his inability to sleep.

Melody must work around his refusal to trust her while confronting the family’s troubled relationships. Her voice and therapeutic skills become a gradual means of reaching people who have resisted care. Each night requires her to negotiate the client’s authority as well as his sleeplessness.
